Wattamolla - a day for adventures!

So lovely to have a day out as a family today.

Because we have been renovating the kitchen and won't go away this holidays, we decided to do some fun outings - day trips we've never gotten around to.  We've been inspired by the cousins visiting from the UK, checking out all sorts of lovely Sydney locations

Today: Wattamolla in the Royal National Park.
Perfect summer day.

Oops, I mean autumn day, but really just how summer should be. Sunny, blue skies and enough breeze to take the sting out of the heat (I'm sure I wasn't meant to be Australian)
But warm enough to enjoy the adventure of swimming in to our destination!
Provision point.
A very short walk to the lookout with the lure of ice cream to follow.
Splashing about in the lagoon

It was so lovely to see our dude be brave to do tricky things - like cross the channel to the beach, and have a go on the boogie board. He was so proud of himself, jumping up and down shouting "I did it, I did it" each time!
"I did it!  I did it!"
Most of all it was lovely watching the kids pottering about, digging in the sand, looking for fish, tipping out buckets of water (because that's serious fun right?  doing that over and over and over).

We had a lovely relaxing day today. There were plenty of other families around and groups of young people (I must be getting old if I can refer to 'young people') mucking about or jumping off the cliff into the lagoon.

One way to get into the lagoon...
We chose to walk around instead, and come across the channel near the ocean to get to the sandy side.
It's worth checking the tide times if you are bringing small people with you!

There is an entry fee for the National Park (currently $12 per day), unless you have a National Parks Pass.  There was ample parking today, but I think it gets pretty busy in high season!

It's definitely a great location, with gas bbqs, short walks, the safety of the calm water of the lagoon, and a fairly calm beach too.

When we got bored of the lagoon we wandered around to the beach.  It had some nice little waves to jump today (no rolling surf).

Today there was even an ice cream van.  This made us all happy.
